CREATING JOBS
The Midlands Airport Development can create over 5200 jobs locally. These jobs will be across all skill bases at all levels. 2000 jobs will be directly created within the airport structure. A further 2600 jobs will be indirectly created within the supply chain and service industries as a result of the airport. A further 600 jobs will be induced in the surrounding area supporting businesses and ciommunities around the airport.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
The Midlands is currently the lowest performing region in Ireland. Its GVA is only half that of the West and one tenth of that of Dublin. The OECD have highligted the value of investing in poorer regions to stimulate a greater return on the investment. This development will see the investment of at least €500million on a phased basis to yeild a return in excess of €500 million per annum added to the regions GVA.
